St. Anthony’s Day
St. Anthony’s Day (17.01) is considered to be the middle of winter. One-half of the animal feed had to remain on St. Anthony’s Day. It was not allowed to spin on St. Anthony’s Day pigs would not procreate and sheep would "run in circles." It was also banned to make or repair fishing nets. The meal on St. Anthony’s Day was a pig’s head (or a pig’s ears) then pigs would procreate (such was the custom in Southern and Western Estonia). The weather on St. Anthony’s Day was used to forecast the haymaking season in summer: "The time between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on St. Anthony’s Day corresponds to the period of 25 June to 30 July in summer. 1 hour on St. Anthony’s Day equals 5 days of the haymaking season. The weather at certain times on St. Anthony’s Day is the same as the weather in summer," people thought in Vnnu.
