Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-02-23

This privacy policy describes how weather.ee processes data of website users. By using our services, you agree to the principles described here.

1. What data do we collect?

weather.ee focuses on weather data and does not collect more information about you than is necessary for the service to function. We primarily collect:

  • Technical log data – IP address, browser type, referred pages, access date and time.
  • Usage statistics – anonymous information about which pages and features are used (e.g. city views, surf map, warnings).
  • Cookie-related data – preferences (e.g. language, dark mode) and analytics cookies, if you have consented to them.

We do not knowingly collect or process sensitive personal data (e.g. ID number, health data, precise location), except where you have voluntarily provided it to us (e.g. when contacting us by email).

2. How do we use the data?

We use collected data mainly for:

  • technical operation of the website and API;
  • ensuring service reliability and security;
  • compiling visit statistics and aggregate analytics to better understand which views are used;
  • improving the website and user experience.

We process data on the basis of legitimate interest, following the principles of proportionality and data minimisation – we collect as little data as possible.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

weather.ee uses cookies primarily for site operation and to improve user experience. Cookies may be of several types:

  • Essential cookies – required for core functions (e.g. language choice, theme preference).
  • Preference cookies – help remember your choices (e.g. preferred city or view).
  • Analytics cookies – help understand how users use the site. They are only applied if you have consented (when the consent module is in use).

You can restrict or fully disable cookie usage in your browser settings if you wish. In that case, some features may not be available.

4. Weather data sources

Weather and warning data are based on information from the Estonian Weather Service and other official sources. This data is generally public and does not contain your personal data as a user. weather.ee aggregates and visualises this data in an accessible form.

5. Sharing data with third parties

We do not sell, exchange or rent user personal data to third parties. Where necessary, we may share data with:

  • service providers (e.g. cloud services, logging and monitoring solutions) who process data only according to our instructions;
  • competent authorities where required by law (e.g. investigating bodies).

We enter into agreements with all partners where necessary to ensure confidentiality and security of data.

6. Data retention

We retain log and usage data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes set out in this privacy policy or to comply with legal requirements. Analytics and log data may be aggregated and anonymised for use in long-term trend analysis.

7. Your rights

If your personal data is processed when using our service, you have the following rights under applicable law, among others:

  • the right to obtain information about the processing of your data;
  • the right to request correction or update of inaccurate data;
  • the right to request deletion or restriction of processing, where permitted;
  • the right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Inspectorate if you consider that your rights have been violated.

8. Security

We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect data from unauthorised access, alteration or destruction. However, no internet-based service can guarantee absolute security.
