Lightning map vs warnings
The real-time lightning map shows stations reporting thunder now; warnings are official alerts for hazardous weather. The map helps you track; warnings tell you when to be especially careful.
Both matter during storms but serve different roles.
Lightning map (weather.ee)
- Station-based thunder reports
- Updates several times per hour
- Not a lightning detector
Weather warnings (EMHI)
- Official county alerts
- Storms, wind, cold and other hazards
- Mandatory reference for danger
When to use which?
- Track storms on the map
- Follow warnings for official danger
- Use both for beach, hiking or travel
FAQ
- Does the map replace warnings?
- No. Warnings are official; the map is an extra monitoring tool.
- Why a warning but no thunder on the map?
- Warnings may cover a wider area or future risk; the map shows current station state.
